About

My name is Parker Spear. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York in 2020 with a BFA degree in Fashion Design, a specialisation in Sportswear, and two minors in Art History, and Fashion History, Costume, Theory, and Culture.

I am a slow fashion designer and jewellery designer with a BFA degree in Fashion Design and Fashion & Art History from The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. After I graduated from University in 2020 and started an online business called La Vie Ancienne. I started selling my jewellery designs and a bespoke slow fashion line. In 2022 I began working as a Retail Sales Assistant and Display Coordinator in a French boutique called Marcel LLC in the states. Where I held multiple roles, as shop manager, sales assistant, window display designer, social media manager, and art director.

My experience both in the Theatre and Fashion industry include multiple positions as Head of Wardrobe, Assistant Costume Designer, and Costume Designer for several Off-Broadway theatre productions. The first production was on ‘The Workshop’ written by Torrey Townsend and directed by Knud Adams. In the spring of 2019 I worked as the Costume Designer and Wardrobe Supervisor for a production of ‘The Franca Rame Project’ directed by Zishan Ugurlu. I have a background in Fine Arts and spent three years as assistant to Costume Designer at Lovie Couture in Washington state, making synchronised skating dresses as well as special occasion and performance dresses for ballroom and opera. Since then, I have interned with several New York designers, including Leanne Marshall, bridal and special occasion designer. Before graduation at FIT I worked for the New York based costume shop, Eric Winterling Inc. Where I worked on constructing and sewing costumes for the stage and the screen. Including the HBO series “The Gilded Age,” & “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” the Spring 2020 show for The New York City Ballet, and multiple Broadway shows including “Tina Turner” and “Frozen.”

The philosophy behind my designs is to create a soft armour, which is fragile and functional, laden with history with a modern twist. My designs are pieces of wearable art that often reflect artistic movements in history. My designs often reflect a fairytale and fantasy-based theme while still relating to real women and the real world. My work is a seemingly endless arsenal of historicism and romanticism, it’s ethereal and dark and beautiful while also thorny, regal and delicate.
